Hi All,

Just posting this here in case another user encounters similar issues as myself. Bit of background, I run a small mailserver for my domain and have used iRedmail since about 2009 to do so. I rebuild my mail server instead of upgrading between major Linux releases. End result was a very nice new (and shiny) iRedmail 1.6.8 on Debian 12. I have also upgraded roundcube to the latest version 1.6.6. 4GB RAM and 7GB swap.

All was going well but amavis would sporadically stop/deactivate which required manual restarting and then a flushing the postfix queue as a few hours would pass before I would catch on. Things work work fine and then the same thing would happen.

As had been noted in the forums in the past, ClamAV appeared to be the culprit. However, as all the fixes noted have been included in the current version, I was left scratching my head a bit. I have the RAM requirement met and also added SWAP to cover any out of memory issues.

After many hours of tinkering, playing with swappiness settings and just general head scratching. I came across modoboa/issues/2475 post on github from 2022 that seemed to resonate with me and the issues I was seeing.

It would appear that the default amavis settings in Debian set the child processes to 1. For reasons noted in the post that I agreed with I went ahead and adjusted the config as follows:

/etc/amavis/conf.d/50-user

$max_servers = 2;

/etc/postfix/master.cf

smtp-amavis unix - - n - 2 smtp

These settings have resulted in amavis being stable for mutiple days now without deactivation/crashes.

The settings above are worth a shot if you have similar issues

Cheers
Mark

I have used some mail services in the past that let you use a delimiter in the email address so that you can use unique addresses to better filter and to an extent show where addresses are being shared.

Example:
email.mydomain.com
can be shared as
email+01.mydomain.com
That address goes to the email.mydomain.com inbox.

(The "+" is an example - I can't remember what the actual delimiter was..)

When you get spam to email+01.mydomain.com, you know the culprit so long as you haven't reused +01 suffix.

Is there anyway to set this up in redmail?

I've got a license for iRedAdmin-Pro and want to test  upgrade procedure from Free on cloned from prod VM before. So, I suppose do the next steps:

1. Clone prod VM to test VM
2. Reconfigure network
3. Perform upgrade
4. Install license key if required
5. Test iRedAdmin-Pro (create user and so on)
6. Destroy test VM (or revert to state before upgrade
7. Perform upgrade  on prod VM

Is this a right sequence? How I should maintain a license: activate/deactivate/transfer procedure or something else? Please, point to actual doc, if exist

openbsd fail2ban(failed)

- iRedMail version 1.6.8 PGSQL edition
- Deployed with downloadable installer
- OpenBSD 7.3 GENERIC.MP#5 amd64
- Store mail accounts in PGSQL
- Web server Nginx
- Manage mail accounts with iRedAdmin & command line
- no found logs related to fail2ban even after increasing logging to DEBUG

fail2ban is failing to load at startup, and the only error message I see is "fail2ban(failed)" in the console during startup, or if I attempt to start or check the service:

# /etc/rc.d/fail2ban check
fail2ban(failed)

# /etc/rc.d/fail2ban start
fail2ban(failed)

# /etc/rc.d/fail2ban restart
fail2ban(failed)

There are no error messages in /var/log/messages which relate to fail2ban.

Additionally, in the mail server daily output email to root it includes

Services that should be running but aren't:
fail2ban

The logfile is empty:

# ls -al /var/log/fail2ban.log
-rwxr-xr-x  1 root  wheel  0 Mar 30 02:54 /var/log/fail2ban.log

I saw in the forums that previous version of the openbsd installer failed to install fail2ban completely, but that issue was fixed.

What more information can I post to be of assistance, or how can I safely reinstall fail2ban on openbsd so that it will play nicely with iredmail?

Thank you for your assistance.

Changed etc/hosts after installing iRedMail

Hi,

I forgot to change the /etc/hosts before installing iRedMail

From:
127.0.0.1    localhost localhost.localdomain

To:
127.0.0.1   mail.domain.com mail localhost

Apparently, all (settings domains, emails, sending, receiving etc) working perfectly fine, with the mail-tester website giving 10/10.

Just wondering if anything could have gone wrong, please let me know.

Thanks.

The SSL certificate was updated successfully, but I cannot send or receive emails. When sending emails, it prompts an SMTP error (550). I followed the SSL certificate installation tutorial to reset the certificate environment, but I still get the same error. How can I fix this error?

Login Mismatch for One Address Only

$

From what I can tell, when you add someone to the ALLOED_LOGIN_MISMATCH_SENDERS, they can login mismatch as anyone. We'd like to instead be able to specify what addresses they can login mismatch as.

other email systems call this delegating the "send as" feature.

Is there currently a way to do this either via iredapd or via postfix settings?

thanks

Dear all,

i set up my DKIM key as a catchall key, as described here https://docs.iredmail.org/sign.dkim.sig … il-domainsand so far it works and doing a check with amavisd-new and external dkim-check-website is fine for my "primary domain". I now reveived this error for one of my other domain on this server:

550,"5.7. 1", The message was quarantined because of Domain Keys
Identified Mail (DKIM) violation ->
The domain that you are sending to has a policy in place that prevents
your message from being sent.
DKIM: permfail - signature mismatch.

Does anybody know howto check the other domains on my server against the catchall DKIM key?

Do i have to add the catchall DKIM key for each domain in the DNS?

Thanks in advance

When I buy a Pro license, it also comes with the iredmail easy or I must but both to get an up and running installation

I already have a dovecot and postfix server.  If I wanted to use iredmail to administer it, will I need to completely start over or will it connect to the existing setup?

- iRedMail version 1.6.8 PGSQL edition
- Deployed with downloadable installer
- OpenBSD 7.3 GENERIC.MP#5 amd64
- Store mail accounts in PGSQL
- Web server Nginx
- Manage mail accounts with iRedAdmin & command line

Please note that in your excellent support documents for auto learn spam/ham crontab:

docs.iredmail.org/dovecot.imapsieve.html#setup-cron-job-to-scan-and-learn-spamham-messages

In the crontab section:

Run command crontab -e -u root to setup cron job for root user, scan emails every 10 minutes:

# iRedMail: Scan reported mails.
*/10   *   *   *   *   /bin/bash /etc/dovecot/sieve/scan_reported_mails.sh

results in error: "/bin/sh: /bin/bash: not found"

I think the crontab (for OpenBSD) might need to be changed to:

# iRedMail: Scan reported mails.
*/10   *   *   *   *   /bin/sh /etc/dovecot/sieve/scan_reported_mails.sh
